Flute songs

Songs are sequences of inputs that activate certain effects when played on the animal flute. Broadly, these effects are:

  • Warp songs that teleport you to a location marked by a warp stone,
  • Puzzle songs that are required to solve various puzzles throughout the world.

While warp songs can be played anywhere, puzzle songs usually need to be played at a specific location to activate their effects. The songs are usually learned either by their directional input, or their corresponding scale degree value, which is shown around the chest containing the flute.

Warp songs

Fast travel room

  • Input: →→←←↓↓↑↑ | 11553377
  • Effect: Warps you to the fast travel room, containing the animal heads.
  • Location: This song can be learned by entering the fast travel room through the Crow Head near the egg room. In the lower screen of this area, a dancing fish will jump out of the water facing the directions held during the inputs for this song.

Fast travel room 2

  • Input: →↑←↓←↓←↓ | 17535353
  • Effect: Warps you to a hidden section in the fast travel room, allowing you to press a switch that unlocks access to the Eel Head.
  • Location: This song can be learned after subduing the Eel and unlocking the UV lantern; using this on the area immediately above the screen with the Eel will reveal a series of jellyfish displaying the directional inputs for this song. Can be used to obtain the UV lantern early in new runs.

Top of the well

  • Input: ↘↖↘↖↘↖↘↖ | 26262626
  • Effect: Warps you to the top of the well.
  • Location: After beating the game, the area leading to the top of the well is unlocked. The glyph containing this can be seen using the UV lantern on the screen to the left, next to the torus.

Map bunny

  • Input: ↖↑↘↓↙↓←↓ | 67234353
  • Effect: Warps you to a hidden area in the Chameleon's quadrant containing a bunny.
  • Location: Locating the various symbol pillars, marking their spots on the map and connecting them in their respective orders will reveal a series of numbers that tell you how to play this song.

Vine bunny

  • Input: →↗→↓→↙↙→ | 18131441
  • Effect: Warps you to a hidden area above the Future Egg containing a bunny.
  • Location: The directional input to this warp song can be found in the puzzle that exits into the Future Egg room. It is behind a set of vines at the top of the screen that must be brushed away by a number of methods depending on the system you are playing on.

Bulb bunny

  • Input: →↓←↑ →↓↖↗ →↓←↑ ↘↙↖↗ | 1357 1368 1357 2468
  • Effect: Warps you to a hidden area in the starting zone containing a bunny.
  • Location: When starting a save file, you awaken out of a different bulb depending on which file slot you chose. Each bulb has a unique melody that plays upon awakening, and glittering particles come out to show you the directional inputs for each melody. The mural that hints at this puzzle tells you the order to play and combine these melodies into one song.

Eel song

  • Input: ↖↓↙←↙↗↖ | 6345486
  • Effect: Unlocks the Eel animal head and the UV lantern if played in the eel room.
  • Location: A few rooms after using the E medal on the eel statue, there will be an eel, which shoots bubbles in the sequence of a flute song. Repeat the song in this room.

Egg song

Using the UV lantern in the egg room will reveal glyphs on the eggs consisting of various arrangements of three horizontal lines. The UV markings in the flute tutorial room reveal that a single upper line corresponds to note 1, a single middle line to note 2, and a single lower line to note 4. This can interpreted as a 3-bit binary number system, similar to trigrams in Bagua:

  • ☶ = 1
  • ☵ = 2
  • ☴ = 3
  • ☳ = 4
  • ☲ = 5
  • ☱ = 6
  • ☰ = 7
  • ☷ = 0 (8)

Once collecting all 64 eggs, the following song can be deciphered from this code:

↖↓→↓↖↓→↓↖↙
↘↙↖↙↘↙↗←↓←↗←
↓←↑←↘←↑←↘←↖↓→↓
↖↓→↓↖↙↘↙↖↙↘↙↖↗
↖↙↗↑←↓↑↖↙←↑↖←↖

Playing the song unlocks a hidden area in the egg chamber leading to the Office Key. While the background ambience in the egg room is in tune with what the song would sound like if the whole song was shifted up a semitone, holding R down isn't required and doesn't make a difference in the outcome.

Crow song

Near the bear head, there are a few screens with many crows, one of them with eight crows in a square formation. Once you enter this room, they will begin cawing at you in a specific sequence that will repeat as long as you stay in the room; it is random every time you re-enter. Playing this sequence with the corresponding directional inputs will unlock a bunny.

TV bunny

Located in the skull room with B. B. wand, this clock allows decoding faces into directions.
  • Input: ↗↖↙↘ ↑←↓→
  • Effect: Unlocks a bunny if played in the house.
  • Location: Found on the TV screen in the house by using the remote to change channels. Each channel is a different face, which maps onto a direction using the face decoder found in the room with the B. B. wand.
