A sleeping chinchilla.

The Chinchilla is a harmless animal. If they are asleep, they can be woken up by playing the animal flute. When awake, they will follow the player until they touch it, as long as they are in their line of sight. They will also follow the yoyo around and prefer it over the player if it is in their sight, indicated by their eyes turning green. They will panic and run away from exploding firecrackers. Asleep or awake, they can be pushed back with a hit of the disc, this will also stun them for a brief moment.

Chinchillas are often used as a part of puzzles.

Getting crushed by a chinchilla is rewarded with an achievement.[1]

Interactions

  • Throwing a firecracker wakes up chinchillas and cause them to run away from it, which can crush the player to death between them and a wall.
  • Having an active firecracker in a different room will wake up and panic any chinchillas in your current room. Timing this well can cause chinchillas to wake up but not run.
  • Playing the animal flute wakes up asleep chinchillas. The further away the chinchilla is from the flute being played the longer you will have to play to wake it up.
  • Walk towards the yoyo when in line of sight. Eyes turn green.
  • Are pushed back and their walking briefly stops when hit by the disc.
  • Crushes the slink when walking over it.
  • Acts as a wall when standing still for the top to bounce off.
  • Topples the top when moving towards it.
  • Chinchillas can push the B. ball and the wheel.

Other interactions

  • Throwing a firecracker in another room then entering a room will cause the chinchillas to run away from the firecracker's position as if it were in the same room-relative position but in your current room. E.g. throwing a firecracker against a left wall then entering a room with chinchillas will cause all the chinchillas to run to the right.
  • Clips a toppled top upwards when walked over. This usually clips it on top of the chinchillas head but can clip the top through a ceiling if there are tiles directly above the chinchilla's head, for example near the Swan Egg.
  • Clips the B. ball sideways when it is squished between itself and a wall.
